Course Description:
PREREQUISITE: "C" or better in Biology CP and Chemistry CP.
This course is suitable for students interested in learning about careers in forensic science, law enforcement or criminal justice. It is a third-year science course AND the first course under the CTE Public Services/Public Safety Pathway, which is the application of multiple scientific disciplines to the investigation of criminal or civil questions of the law. It covers an introduction to scientific inquiry and the process of forensic investigation. This inquiry is then applied to the analysis of crime scene analysis, physical/chemical analysis of evidence, photography, microscopy, chromatography, hair/fiber/glass/ document/ fingerprint analysis, toxicology, entomology, anthropology, blood (serology), and DNA analysis. Parental approval is required as sensitive information/graphic content will be covered. Opportunity to earn work hour/s credit based on teacher approval and availability.
