• High School Equivalency (HSE-GED) Certificate or High School Diploma (HSD)?

The GED (General Education Development) test is an alternative to earning a high school diploma. To earn a high school diploma, you must complete courses in order to earn the credits needed for a diploma. To earn a high school equivalency certificate you must pass an equivalency test that is recognized in the state of California. The GED, TASC and HiSET are approved equivalency exams. At Fontana Adult School, we offer free classes to prepare students for the GED exam. For students with no credits or a few credits, the HSE may be a faster way to achieve your goals. We are happy to review your high school transcripts and review both options with you.

To obtain an official California High School Equivalency (HSE-GED) Certificate, test takers must meet all of the following state requirements:

    • You have not completed high school.
    • You are a California resident or a member of the armed services assigned to duty in the state of California.
    • You have passed all portions of an HSE Test that has been approved by the California State Board of Education (SBE) and taken at a testing center that has been approved by the California Department of Education.
  • The GED exam is for adults who do not have a high school diploma. Those who pass all 4 parts of the exam receive a California High School Equivalency Certificate.

4 parts of the GED exam:

    • Language Arts
    • Mathematics
    • Social Studies
    • Science
