Alder Middle School
Alder Middle School is located at 7555 Alder Avenue in the city of Fontana. It first opened in 1959. The city of Fontana and its schools share a history of growth that explains why the district has become such an enriching part of the community. In its early days, Fontana was a thriving agricultural center, yielding crops of oranges, grapes, walnuts, and assorted vegetables, as well as eggs, rabbits, and pork. The town adopted an early understanding of the importance of education, first holding classes in a community facility that also served as a church and social center in 1880, then with a tent school in 1892. The first permanent school was built on the corner of Locust and Foothill in 1895.
The school district was established in the 1920's and unified in 1956. Fontana transformed from an agricultural center in the 1920's to a leader in steel production in the 1950's. Today, Fontana is a center for technology, industry, and commerce in the Southern California marketplace. Due to the significant population growth of the city, the ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ has grown to accommodate the children of the community. We now have 29 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 5 high schools, 2 continuation high schools, and 1 adult school.
Alder Middle School provides a clean, safe, and functional environment for learning through proper facilities maintenance and campus supervision. Built in 1959, the school sits on 22.25 acres and includes a library, 45 permanent classrooms, 16 portable classrooms, three computer labs, a gym, two staff lounges, four teacher workrooms, a Parent Center, and a cafeteria/multipurpose room.
Student safety is taken very seriously at Alder Middle School. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria before school and monitored by two noon duty aides. When students arrive in the morning and depart in the afternoons, students are met at the gate by the principal and assistant principal. Supervision is provided by 10 teachers stationed at strategic locations on campus, two district security officers patrolling the patio areas, and school administrators circulating around the campus. During lunch, the principal, assistant principal, two counselors, the district security officer, two noon duty aides, and two Fontana Police Resource Officers share supervision of student activities in the cafeteria and in common gathering areas. Alder Middle School is a closed campus.
