Learner Profile
Learner-Centered, Future Ready Vision
At the March 13, 2024, school board meeting the contract with the National Center on Education and Economy (NCEE) was approved. The goal of the partnership is to improve coherence to district systems, initiatives, and plans in order to build an education system that is future focused, and learner centered. ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ (FUSD) has partnered with NCEE over numerous years, engaging principals in executive leadership development with our NISL program; working with school teams to improve student learning with our Teaching for Effective Learning program, and supporting district leadership to achieve their strategic goals.
As FUSD looks forward, they are invested in bringing coherence to district systems, initiatives, and plans, some of which had been lost in responding to COVID-19 and its impacts. A key step is to revisit the work that began before COVID-19 on a Learner Profile (the shared vision of the competencies that students need to be successful in school, work, and life). Co-created with input from key stakeholder groups, the Learner Profile is a clear articulation of priority goals for future-ready students.
We are pleased to report that the first phase of the work has been successfully completed. The Learner Profile Committee and District Alignment Team drafted the five competencies of the Learner Profile. The Learner Profile Committee (70-member (committee made up of a diverse representation of stakeholders) met July 24, 25 and October 30. The District Alignment team (composed of district office and school site leaders) met May 15 for an entire day and monthly meetings held in August, September, and October.

Next Steps:- During February, we will be sharing the Learner Profile with the community. This will involve collecting feedback through surveys, focus groups, and meetings. This feedback is crucial as we refine and validate the Learner Profile to ensure it meets the needs and expectations of our community.
- District Alignment Team will participate in cycles of improvement to reflect on current practices and processes and how they are supporting or hampering the district’s transformation efforts to build an education system that is coherent, future focused, and learner centered.
- The Learning Progression team will start second semester and develop learning progressions for each competency to explore the ways students can demonstrate their progress on the key competencies.
This partnership with NCEE is a significant step towards creating a coherent, future-focused, and learner-centered education system in FUSD. We are excited about the progress made so far and look forward to the continued collaboration and community engagement in the coming months.
